About Strathpeffer Spa Shop
In September 2006, Lady Gilean Mackenzie opened the Strathpeffer Spa Shop, in the heart of the village of Strathpeffer. Her aim was to build on the village’s unique spa history by offering a range of therapeutic spa treatments as well as offering customers a wide range of organic and natural products.
Born in nearby Castle Leod, the historic 16th century home of the chief of the clan Mackenzie, Lady Gilean has had a long-standing and active interest in promoting Scotland and introducing visitors to the hidden gems of the Highlands. Her ancestor Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Duchess of Sutherland and Countess of Cromartie, had a strong connection with the village of Strathpeffer and its establishment as a fashionable spa.
As well as living and working in the United Kingdom and North America, Lady Gilean has worked on successful community-based projects in Scotland such as the restoration of the Strathpeffer Spa Pavilion and the creation of the Tarbat Discovery Centre in Portmahomack in Easter Ross. With the launch of the Strathpeffer Spa therapy centre and shop, Lady Gilean is returning to her roots. She is currently creating a centre for health and wellbeing and also providing a showcase to highlight the best of Scottish products from this special part of the Highlands.
